Nick Bilton is a Designer, User Interface Specialist, Technologist, Journalist, Hardware Hacker, Researcher, etc. etc.
Nick has worked in numerous different industries within the context of design, technology and storytelling. Currently his time is shared between The New York Times newspaper and
nytimes.com where he serves as Design Integration Editor. The other half of his time is spent in The New York Times
Research & Development Lab working on a variety of research projects and exploring technologies that will become commonplace in a 24-48 month timeframe.
While at The New York Times, Nick has worked editorially with Sunday Styles, Circuits, Business Day, Sports and a variety of specials including the Elections, Oscars and section redesigns. Other projects incude integrating Print-to-mobile SMS into the newspaper,
semacodes to mobile content and mobile exploration for the iPhone,
eInk devices and a variety of
UMPCs. Nick was also one of the co-creating team members of the
Times Reader, a newspaper-like application that is downloaded to your computer, laptop or tablet PC and has the look and feel of the print publication while maintaining the immediacy of nytimes.com online news.
Nick recently won 'Best Overall Hack', with Michael Young, at
Yahoo Hack Day in London buy developing a product called Shifd.
Shifd.com was co-created by Nick & Michael and recently launched in public BETA with the backing of The Times.
Prior to working at The Times, Nick worked in the film industry with Mirimax Films and the advertising & branding industry as a Creative Director... and although he is not proud of it, he designed the first
Britney Spears doll.
